2021 Eggplant Cooking Contest
Cooking Contest entries eligible for prizes
Every year, the Loomis Eggplant Festival & Street Faire holds a cooking contest with cash prizes. Are you an amateur or community chef with an Eggplant recipe that your family and friends love? If so, enter the Eggplant Cooking Contest to share your dish and vie for a prize.
The first-place prize is $100, $50 for second and third place is $25. Youth are encouraged to enter the contest, too. Anyone age 18 or younger who submits an entry will get an honorable mention certificate, according to Mary Jane Perkins, Cooking Contest chairperson.
Cooking contest categories are Main Dish or Appetizer. The recipe must include eggplant as the main ingredient and needs to only serve six portions. Entries are due by 10:15 a.m. to the Cooking Contest booth at the Festival.
Barbara Janosko, of Foresthill, was 2018’s winner for her Main Dish entry. She took the top prize for her grilled eggplant and vegetable pasta salad.
Perkins urges participation in the contest by all ages. “Just do it,” she said. “Submit your eggplant dish and win some cash and become famous! And don’t forget, kids, too.”
Complete rules and the entry form can be found online at Loomis Eggplant Festival Cooking Contest 2021. Contact Perkins by phone or text at (916) 835-8797.
