Eggplant Festival is back

Mark your calendars for the return of the Loomis Eggplant Festival on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021.

Parking

General parking and temporary handicap are available at the Loomis Train Depot; the entrance will be on Webb Street.

Grammar School parking lot and look for signs at additional parking lots off Library Drive or Taylor Road.

Directions

From Sacramento and points West: Take I-80 East toward Reno.
Exit at Horseshoe Bar Road. Turn Right over the freeway on Horseshoe Bar Road. Continue on Horseshoe Bar Road towards Taylor Road. Turn Right on Taylor Rd.

  • Turn Left on Library Drive for Event Parking
  • Turn Left on Webb St. for Train Depot and Handicap Parking
  • Turn Right into Loomis Grammar Parking Lot

From Auburn and points East: Take I-80 West toward Sacramento. Exit at Horseshoe Bar Road. Turn Left at the traffic signal at top of the exit ramp. Continue on Horseshoe Bar Road towards Taylor Road. Turn Right on Taylor Rd.

Eggplant Cooking Contest 

1. Each dish must use Eggplant as its main ingredient.
(The judge’s definition of Main Dish is final.)

Entries must be delivered to the Cooking Contest booth no later than 10:15 a.m. on
the day of the Festival along with the attached recipe. (There are no facilities for cooling or heating of food. It must be prepared and ready to serve.)

Judging will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Judging criteria: Appearance – Taste – Originality in use of eggplant

2. Entries must serve 6 portions for three judges to taste.

3. Cooking Contest winners will be awarded:
1st Place $100
2nd Place $50
3rd Place $25

4. Dishes and awards must be picked up at the Cooking Contest booth by 1:30 p.m

 

What: Loomis Eggplant Street Chalk Art Contest
When: Saturday, October 2nd
Where: Taylor Road, by the High Hand Art Gallery

participants are responsible for providing their own supplies. Only solid non-toxic chalk pastels are allowed; no oil pastels or paint of any kind may be used. Bring a water spray bottle, rags, and a whisk broom. Don’t forget something to sit on such as a stool or gardening pad, a hat, sunscreen, and drinking water.

Chalk Art Contest images must be family-friendly. No lewd, political, or commercial images will be allowed. No stenciling will be allowed. You may have multiple squares, but only one entry will be allowed in the competition. A limited supply of chalk will be available for purchase on the day of the event.

Event schedule:
9:30 a.m. – Artist check-in
10 a.m. – 2 p.m. – Drawing time
2:30 p.m. – Voting ends
3 p.m. – Winner announced from the Main Stage
